Practice Day

Harris Irwin recently held a ‘Practice Day’ at its northern head office in Richmond, North Yorkshire, bringing all its staff back together for the first time in 18 months.

Practice Day

With the pandemic resulting in the vast majority of our staff working remotely, the end of social distancing, the roll-out of the vaccination programme and a generally more optimistic outlook meant we were able to welcome over 30 members of staff to a day of strategy and fun at our main office at Aske, near Richmond.

The morning started with a talk from the directors who wanted to thank everyone for their efforts over the last difficult and challenging 18 months and provided an overview of the current, very busy, position of the Practice.

There then followed a quiz, which was competitive as ever, and after a bite of lunch and refreshments, it was time to judge the Great Harris Irwin Bake Off. It was clear staff had been putting their lockdown time to good use because the standard of this year’s entries was incredible. Our independent judges had a difficult time (it’s a hard job tasting cakes!) narrowing down to a winner but that accolade went to Natalie Douglass. Well done Natalie!

A raffle brought proceedings to a close, with Richard winning a long weekend at a cottage in the Lake District, the day couldn’t have gone any better.

Harris Irwin Director Mike Irwin said: “It was fantastic to be able to have all our staff under one roof again with even Andy Plaice our Associate Director joining us for the quiz from our office in the Netherlands.

“Like the rest of the country, we had to adapt to new ways of working in 2020 and into 2021, but in a business like ours we feel there is more creativity and inspiration when people are together in the same environment, so the Practice Day was the first step towards bringing staff back on a more permanent basis whilst still enabling people to work flexibly.”
