Harris Irwin Architects were instructed by Frontier Estates to provide designs for a new 64 bedroom care in the town of Frinton-on-Sea, in the Tendring district of Essex. The site was formerly occupied by a single storey 46 bedroom care home of poor single storey design with an inadequate CQC rating.     An opportunity was therefore present to create a state of the art caring facility whilst also improving the urban townscape. Working towards a positive interaction with the local council from the initial pre application enquiry stage, through to public consultation and the planning application process itself, Harris Irwin were able to satisfy the demands of all stakeholders with a design fitting the accommodation brief and local context.

The care home benefits from facilities that include a daycare space, cafe, various dayspaces for residents, along with flexible use rooms on the first floor that could include an activity room, hair salon, and wellness suite. Access to external spaces is encouraged through the ground floor rooms to safe garden spaces of varying prospects, including the southeast facing courtyard orientated towards the adjoining Frinton Park, and on the first floor via three external terraces, two of which also overlook the courtyard and park.
